1. Tell us a little about yourself. How was your upbringing ?
My name is Taylor Moxey and I’m 12 years old. I am a fun-loving, easygoing, ambitious and hardworking entrepreneur, author and philanthropist who transformed a $40 loan from my parents into an expanding empire known as Taylor Moxey LLC. Starting at age 7, I built a cupcake company; wrote an inspirational best-selling book, “The Adventures of Taylor the Chef;” and developed a line of motivational daily mantra cards using a play on my last name, called “Moxivation” Cards. I also created the Taylor Moxey Foundation to Educate, Empower and Encourage literacy and community service for people world wide. I am honored to have August 18th declared as Taylor Moxey Day, ( A day Of Service) in Miami Dade County by Mayor Carlos A. Giménez. I am also so proud to have been presented by President Barack H. Obama with the 2016 President’s Volunteer Service Award for my community service. I was also honored with the 2017 Points Of Light Award by the late President George H. W. Bush for my philanthropic efforts opening The Taylor Moxey Library. I was also 2017 Youth Entrepreneur Of The Year and the 2018 Outstanding Youth in Philanthropy Award Recipient.
2. Who are your inspirations ?
My inspirations are my parents Vernon and Dr. Fabia Moxey. B. Smith, Carl Hall and Dr. Mae Carol Jemison.
3. Tell us about the Taylor Moxey foundation and what was the inspiration behind it?
My Taylor Moxey Foundation was started to Educate, Empower and Encourage literacy and community service for people world wide. Under the Taylor Moxey Foundation, the Taylor Moxey Library was created to help improve literacy in low-income areas. The project is designed to make libraries more accessible to children and adults locally, nationally and internationally through the Taylor Moxey Library System.
4. I see you won the 2018 Outstanding Youth in Philanthropy Award how did that make you feel ?
Winning The Outstanding Youth philanthropist Award was super cool and surreal. Well, I actually had no idea I was even nominated until my parents told me. We were so busy working on my 3rd Taylor Moxey Library, which opened in West Palm Beach on November 26, 2018. I don’t really focus on awards when I’m working on a project. Whether it’s building a new library, rehearsing with a choreographer on my dance solo or any other projects I’m working on at the time.. I just kind of zone out and lock into what I’m doing. Although I’m grateful for every award and recognition I’ve received over the years, I just view it as proof that others are recognizing the hard work I do, but my hard work isn’t motivated by getting an award.
5.Are you working on anything new right now that you can share with us ?
Yes! I do have a new project I’m working on. I am actually excited that we actually just started the process of designing and building a new Taylor Moxey library. This container is going to be my fourth library and it will be shipped to Bogota Columbia. It’s really cool because while I’m not sure of all the details, mostly because my parents take care of the paperwork, I get to focus on the stuff I love most which is the design, function and making it exciting from a kid’s perspective.
6. When you hear “Woman of the Year” what does that mean to you ? In other words how would you define it ?
When the word “Woman Of The Year” and Taylor Moxey is mentioned in the same sentence, it allows me to look at myself and see a young woman who is strong, independent, confident, not perfect but willing to uplift other people of my generation and encourage them to be limitless. I see me as a reflection of my mom. I know I’m a young but I believe that whatever I dream and put in my mind, there’s no limit to what I can do.
7. What advice do you have for aspiring entrepreneurs and community organizers?
My advice for aspiring entrepreneurs and community leaders is to follow your dreams, never think you can’t make an impact on the world just because you are young and monetize your passion.
8. How can people help and get involved? And how can people reach out to you?
People can help and get involved through book donations, volunteering their time during Taylor Moxey day on August 18, which is a day of service and monetarily through the Taylor Moxey Foundation. My favorite motto is “Dreams Don’t Work Unless You Do”
